Meet The Doctor

Dr. Paul Schafer

Paul Schafer grew up in the east bay.  He graduated from the College of Engineering at U.C. Berkeley, where he earned a letter in crew and served on the Engineering Joint Council.  After working as an electrical engineer and project leader for Hewlett-Packard, he was accepted to U.C. San Francisco Dental School.  There he was honored to serve as class president of his class, and received the Chancellor Fleming Award and a Certificate of Commendation from the dean.  He also received achievement awards from the International Congress of Oral Implantologists and the Academy of Operative Dentistry.  After graduation in 1994, Dr. Schafer served as a part-time member of the faculty for over 18 years.  He is a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honor society.

Dr. Schafer continues to study the latest advances in dentistry in such areas as lasers and implants with the nation’s foremost clinicians.  This passion for education allows him to offer state-of-the-art techniques with an emphasis on prevention.  Dr. Schafer is one of only a handful of dentists in the bay area to have been awarded a Fellowship from the World Congress of Minimally Invasive Dentistry in recognition of his training in the most advanced methods in saving teeth.

If a tooth truly needs a crown, or a conservative tooth-colored composite filling, Dr. Schafer’s office is one of only five offices in Marin County equipped to use a surgical operating microscope for these treatments.

Should you be missing a tooth, Dr. Schafer is one of only a dozen surgeons and general dentists in Marin who have been awarded a Fellowship from the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.

In recognition of Dr. Schafer’s continuing commitment to expand his skills and dental knowledge by completing over a thousand hours of continuing education classes, he was awarded a Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry in 2007.  Less than 1% of all dentists in the United States have achieved this honor, including only two dentists practicing in Marin County.  Despite his clinical accolades, Dr. Schafer takes time to listen to his patients’ individual needs so he can best help them make informed choices about their dental health.

Dr. Schafer  is active many professional societies.  He has served on the Board of Directors of the Northern California Academy of General Dentistry, the California Dental Association, and the Marin County Dental Society.

Dr. Schafer is proud to give back to his community and to those less fortunate.   Dr. Schafer has volunteered at events hosted by Flying Doctors, Remote Area Medical, Care Harbor, and CDA Cares.

Dr. Schafer has been a Boy Scout volunteer since earning his Eagle rank in 1977,.including many years as a Cubmaster , Assistant Scoutmaster, and Troop Commissioner. He is married with two teenagers.
